The Youth and Family Academy (YAFA) began operation in 1996 and provides services to students in grades 7 through 12 who seek a non-traditional educational setting.

YAFA utilizes a combination of school-based, family-centered support services.  YAFA has Youth and Family Services staff available on-call to students and parents all year round (not just during school calendar) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 
No other school provides this service.  These services enhance and make possible the students’ success.

YAFA’s hours of operation:  Building open 8:00 a.m.,
School Day 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. with early release Friday,
After school program 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

YAFA provides after school and summer programming for students and their families.

! YAFA’s Middle School program made AYP in Reading and
  Math for the 2005-2006, 2006-2007 and 2008-2009 School Years.

! YAFA’s High School program made AYP in Math for the 2005-
  2006 and 2006-2007 School Years and in Reading for the
  2008-2009, 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 School Years.

! YAFA’s High School program was one of only two schools
  in the District who made AYP in Math for the 2006-2007 School

! YAFA’s High School showed a significant amount of academic
  growth in
 2008-2009 per CDE with Reading a 54.5 Median
  Student Growth Percentile (50 being state standard), Writing a
  61 Median Student Growth Percentile and Math a 49 Median
  Student Growth Percentile. 
2009-2010 per CDE with Reading a
  55 Median Student Growth Percentile, Writing a 54 Student
  Median Growth Percentile, and Math a 66 Median Student
  Growth Percentile.

! Thirty (30) YAFA students graduated and received their
  diplomas in May 2010.

! Eighteen (18) YAFA students received their G.E.D.’s during
  the Academic Year 2009-2010.

! Thirty-five (35) YAFA students graduated and received their
  diplomas in May 2012.

! In the 2009-2010 Performance Report for YAFA, Jody Ernst,
  Ph.D., Director of Research & Evaluation, Colorado League of
  Charter Schools stated the following: "Of particular note are
  the median growth percentiles that YAFA has achieved with its
  students.  Not only does YAFA far exceed the median growth
  percentiles based on all AEC's,
they exceeded the median
  growth percentile for all high schools in their district as well.
This was the case in 2008-2009 as well as 2009-2010."

! Four (4) YAFA students were provided full scholarships by
  Colorado State University to attend the 2007 Summer
  Transportation Institute on Civil Engineering/Technology.


The mission of the Youth and Family Academy is to provide all students the opportunity to master grade-level skills regardless of previous academic performance, family background, socioeconomic status, race or gender in a rich, dynamic and safe environment with the purpose to educate them at a high academic performance level while promoting positive growth in social/emotional behaviors and attitudes.
