Our Mission

The mission of the Youth and Family Academy is to provide all students the opportunity to master grade-level skills regardless of previous academic performance, family background, socioeconomic status, race or gender in a rich, dynamic and safe environment with the purpose to educate them at a high academic performance level while promoting positive growth in social/emotional behaviours and attitudes.

School Description

The Youth and Family Academy (YAFA) began operation in 1996 and provides services to students in grades 7 through 12 who seek a non-traditional educational setting. We have been functioning properly since 1996 and during those many years of work, we have gathered and learned a lot of new information about education. Now, we are using that information to our benefit and the benefit of our students because they can now learn everything twice as faster. YAFA utilizes a combination of school-based, family-centered support services.  YAFA has Youth and Family Services staff available on-call to students and parents all year round (not just during school calendar) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  No other school provides this service.  These services enhance and make possible the students’ success.

YAFA’s hours of operation:  Building open 8:00 a.m., School Day 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. with early release Friday, After school program 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

YAFA provides after school and summer programming for students and their families.
